Doctor explains the dangers of children eating THC edibles

We’re hearing more and more of children eating marijuana gummies, chocolates, and other edibles that resemble candy.

“We have definitely seen younger children with, frankly, they look intoxicated or they can get excessively sleepy,” UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital pediatric emergency specialist Dr. Jerri Rose said.

But when kids under age 6 eat them, it can be dangerous.

Elizabeth Perry’s doctor prescribed gummy edibles for her to help her sleep. She was told to eat one a night, but her toddler Oliver found them and ate 15.

“He started shaking and crying and looked at me with utter fear in his eyes,” she remembered. “We weren’t sure he would be OK.”

Oliver started seizing and had to be taken by helicopter to the hospital, where he was intubated. He survived, but Elizabeth wants other parents to be aware.

There’s a lot of THC packed in gummies, and when ingested by a small child, they can be getting a five or six-fold overdose, according to Rose. Side effects can include tiredness, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, or worse.

“In some cases, if the child ingests enough, it can be enough to make them so sleepy that it could depress their breathing,” Rose said.

To be clear… you cannot overdose on THC. There hasn't been 1 single case, ever. The kids will sleep it off. Dangerous? No. Not at all but I don't recommend giving them to kids in the first place.

I'm surprised there hasn't been some legislation on THC candies. I mean, everyone likes candy, most of all kids. And you can obviously whack yourself to high-heaven if you gobble up the whole package instead of taking one or two or three. We need to stick with the flower and the smoke. Leave the candy for the kids.

This is a non concern. Some thc isn't going to do what the trans cult does medically to kids or piece of trash women who drink while pregnant. This story is pointless, who wants to waste money on letting kids get high

lets be real, we have for decades had toddlers dying of meth overdose, absorbtion through the skin in the house when parents do it. we have had years of kids intoxicated with alchol, cause they accidently got mamas drink. its the PARENTS fault this is happening, and that is IF they arent aware. i know loads of families, black and caucasian, that think its funny, entertaining, to feed these to kids, toddlers, teens, animals FFS!! its not gonna stop lol parents need to parent! only solution sadly.

I volunteer at the food bank in Northern Texas and we are NOT allowed to let these fly as they can pose a danger and it's also illegal to distribute stuff like this.
