Luxury Fashion Brands Under Fire for Stealing Designs of African Tribes

Luxury Fashion Brands Under Fire for Stealing Designs of African Tribes . In the tapestry of global fashion, where colors dance and patterns weave stories of heritage and identity, one undeniable truth emerges: African fashion exudes vibrancy and style to such an extent that it serves as a source of inspiration for European fashion. Its trove of colors, intricate patterns, and timeless traditions have captivated hearts and minds across the globe, becoming a muse for designers seeking to capture its essence. Yet, amidst the awe-inspiring fusion of cultures, a disconcerting narrative emerges, casting a shadow on the creative landscape. Accusations have persisted for many years, suggesting that major luxury brands have appropriated and stolen iconic designs from African tribes.
African tribes boast a treasure of striking aesthetics, symbolic motifs, and ingenious craftsmanship, nurtured over centuries. These tribes, with their unique cultural identities, have inspired and influenced countless designers, contributing to the tapestry of global fashion. Yet, the line between appreciation and appropriation can sometimes be blurred, leading to replicating or misrepresenting indigenous designs.
For example, Louis Vuitton, a prominent luxury brand, has faced accusations of purportedly appropriating elements from the Kwele mask of Africa to create its iconic monogram. While it remains debatable whether this resemblance is a mere coincidence or a deliberate source of inspiration for the brand, undeniable similarities exist between the two.

THIS IS GRAND THEFT….Look how the government came after designer Dapper Dan, seized his creations. But, tables got turned, now Gucci was caught bootlegging Dapper Dan's designs, and made him a partner.

📖✝️🙏❤💌💞❤❤❤💌💖❤💖😭 Dear Heavenly Father God, I know that I am a sinner and I ask you to please forgive my sins. I believe in my heart that Jesus is your Son; that He died for me on a cross and you raised him up. Jesus, I declare you my Lord and I open my heart to you.
In Jesus Name I pray, Amen" 💗❤

❤💕💞This Gospel message if you continue to believe in this message, you will be saved: Because first of all I delivered to you what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he rose again on the third day according to to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time,

Did anyone see what I saw ? The Nigerian Government had ordered the Ghanaian people to leave the country in 1983, so they packed their belongings in those plaid bags, later used by the designer “ Celine” . My point is ; Africans can “kick” out their own, but they have welcomed the Whites, Arabs and now the Chinese. Lord have mercy !!! 😔 😭

As an Ethiopian I find what they did very offensive. These beautiful dresses symbolize the unique cultures and traditions that Ethiopians hold. Watching white women wear them in public to make profit makes me really upset. I understand wanting to learn about our cultures and traditions but stealing is not acceptable. If you’re interested in learning more about us, ask us and we will show them to you. If the intent is to educate then the models and designers will all have to be Ethiopians or else it's considered cultural appropriation (a formal name for stealing other cultures belongings for one’s own gain). In addition, the hair style and the clothes and also the setting all has to be done right (which can only be done from the original people and source with formal credit given). I love educating others about our Ethiopian culture and I think it's super fun. However, I think this is being done for pure profit and it’s disgusting. What they're doing is not right and should be stopped. Culture is meant to be respected, but not appropriated. Thank you for speaking about this.

Opportunists take what they want and will use force, violence, theft and deception if they must.

Millions of these opportunists aren't in America or Australia or south Africa or the Pacific islands because they were invited.

Luxury brands have been doing this for over 40 years. The saddest part is not a cent of their profits are donated to schools or hospitals belonging to the tribes they steal these centuries old designs from. Nothing more than modern day Colonialism!

No, if it belongs to a tribe any where . It shouldn't be worn by anyone else else . These are usually use to identify the tribe from another. Some tribes can inter marry some can't. It's tradition , it doesn't change . Anyone who takes a design should be sued .
